SendGrid has retired its free plan as of Saturday, July 26th, 2025. You likely received several emails directly from Twilio SendGrid leading up to that date.
Your site relies on SendGrid for things like form submission notifications or Forgot Password emails, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan to continue receiving emails from your site.
With spam and abuse on the rise, providers like SendGrid are phasing out free plans to tighten security and improve deliverability. It’s a trend we’re seeing across the board.
Here are the two steps you can take to keep emails flowing from your website or app:
Option 1: Upgrade Your SendGrid Account to a Paid Plan
To stay on SendGrid:
- Log in to your SendGrid account
- Choose a paid plan that fits your needs here
- Add valid billing information
Failure to upgrade before July 26th means your emails will stop sending. After that date, the free tier will no longer send mail—even if your volume is low.
This option is the easiest (for both of us), but would increase your monthly cost to $20 for 50k emails per month.
Option 2: Switch to Mailgun’s Free Plan (Low Monthly Cost Alternative)
Want to keep monthly costs as low as possible? Mailgun offers a “Free” plan**—it’s free for up to 1000 emails per month and only charges you if you go over. You’ll still need to add a credit card, but you won’t pay anything unless your usage exceeds the monthly limit.
However, we will charge a one-time setup-fee of $175 via Help Desk.
If you’d like help switching to Mailgun:
- Create a ticket at helpdesk.reusser.com
- Create your Mailgun account - View Instructions here
- Add Payment Method to your account
- Choose Foundation Plan - Free trial (we will unsubscribe to the Free plan for you after we join your team)
The ticket will help us organize conversations around
- Joining your team
- Confirming DNS Access so we can setup the required Mailgun DNS records (if applicable)
- Confirm Hosting access (if applicable)
- Installing the API Keys for your site.
- Downgrade to Free plan
Note: While the Mailgun Free plan is a great low-cost option today, there’s no guarantee it will be around indefinitely. If it were ever discontinued, you’d break even in about 9 months when compared to upgrading to SendGrid’s $20/month plan (Mailgun setup: $175 one-time vs. $20/month ongoing for SendGrid).
If you need help evaluating plans or making the switch, feel free to create a HelpDesk ticket to get support from our team.
Option 3: Switch to Reusser Mailgun’s Plan (Included with Reusser Hosting*)
If you already host with us, we offer basic email sending as a part of our hosting offer. It's free for up to 50 emails per month. If you consistently go over this limit, we will reach out and recommend one of the other two options above. This is recommended for low-volume website to facilitate Contact form submissions and Forgot Password emails. If you have a high traffic site (like e-commerce), we recommend a paid plan from one of the mail providers above.
Since this does require a configuration change, we will charge a one-time setup-fee of $175 via Help Desk.
If you’d like help switching to MailGun:
- Create a ticket at helpdesk.reusser.com
- If we have access to your DNS, we will take care of the rest
- If we do not have access to your DNS, we will send you a list of DNS records that will need added.
The ticket will help us organize conversations around
- Confirm Hosting access (if applicable)
- Registering your domain in our MailGun account.
- Confirming DNS Access so we can setup the required Mailgun DNS records (if applicable)
- Installing the API Keys for your site.
*This is a newer offering for sites we host. Our Plan includes ~ 50 emails per month. If you consistently go over this limit, we will reach out and recommend one of the other two options above.
If you need help evaluating plans or making the switch, feel free to create a HelpDesk ticket to get support from our team.
