So we've completed your upgrade to ExpressionEngine 3 and you're wondering what's next or what has changed. The good news is that a lot has changed - you are now on the most efficient, secure and accessible version of ExpressionEngine to date. The even better news is that your workflow won't change and once you login you will be able to seamlessly continue working as you had before with no extra training required.
I would like to take a few minutes to highlight a few keys areas that you will notice with the new version of ExpressionEngine.
Control Panel Styling.
The first thing you will notice when you login is that the control panel looks completely different, but don't worry - everything you need is still there and where you would expect it to be. Not only does it have a sleeker look and feel, but it also responds quicker than your previous version!
Automatic Menus & Menu Separation
ExpressionEngine 3 dynamically creates menus based off the permissions for different user groups which comes in very handy. It also allows us to create custom "sub-menus" per user group to even further refine navigation.
There are two links I would like to briefly point out: Create and Members. In your former control panel you probably had a drop down called "Add" where you then selected the channel - in ExpressionEngine 3 that has now been renamed to "Create". If you have access, the Members link is now front and center rather than buried in menus like it was previously.
Modifying Account Information.
Modifying your account information is now easier than ever. Simply click your name in the upper right of the screen and click "My Profile" to update your email, password and other settings. You can also click "New Link" from anywhere within the control panel to have ExpressionEngine create a "Quick Link" to that location and create a menu custom tailored just for you.
Responsive Control Panel.
You can easily access/administer your website on any device as the control panel is now fully responsive. This is a great addition for those who need to update their website on-the-go or use varying screen sizes.
So there are a few key things I wanted to highlight that will hopefully get you excited to dive into your new ExpressionEngine 3 control panel. I fully expect the transition to be seamless, but if you have any questions after getting into it, please don't hesitate to let us know!
